Unique Organized Shoe Display

If you are crazy about high heels as much as I am then you are going to love this! It is an easy and inexpensive way to not only organize all of those heels you have but also a beautiful way to display them, like a piece of art that they truly are!

All you need are architectural moldings from you local hardware store, hang it up and organize your shoes!  Get creative and paint the moldings to liven up that closet or dressing room!

This is also a great solution for those with closets that have a small wall space that is too small for large storage solutions.  This idea doesn't take up a lot of space and it is fun and unique!

Don't you just love it?!

Lovely Wall Wednesday

Chevron Striped Wall
I recently received an email from a reader, Melanie, who was inspired by one of my previous blog post about my love for chevron stripes!  She originally inquired about chevron rugs but due to her own budget constraints she decided on painting the stripes on her wall instead.  She so kindly shared her pictures with me to share with all of you! I absolutely love the outcome!

Melanie has a great blog of her own that I encourage you to check out as well as her website.  She is a very talented graphic designer and photographer.

Before...

Melanie started with an 18 inch metal ruler as a guide and placed pen dots on the wall and used a level to make sure they were all lined up.

The dots were measured 10 inches above one another.  She then used  painters tape to connect the dots, in a zig zag way so she would alternate between the top and bottom dots in a row as seen in image below.

After...

I just love the outcome!  She used a paint and primer in one by Behr called "Clear Water," and removed the tape just before the paint had dried to get a nice crisp edge.

Thanks Melanie for sharing your chevron striped wall! It turned out great!

Design Tip Tuesday

There are so many ways to add color in your space, but it can be tricky in pulling it off successfully.  Here is a great designer tip on how to add color to your space and really pull a room together, from HGTV's Top 10 Tips for Adding Color.

Design by Kenneth Brown

Use the 60-30-10 Rule
By Mark McCauley, ASID

Decorating a space in terms of color is as easy as 60-30-10. Don't believe me? Take a look at some rooms in magazines or in Designers' Portfolio. You'll notice that the rooms you like the most are almost invariably divided into percentages of 60-30-10. Why this works is anybody's guess. Perhaps it is the human tendency to see an overall theme in the 60 percent hue, unifying the coloration. The 30 percent provides visual interest and the 10 percent, not unlike jewelry, provides that little spark of sparkle.
So, when decorating a particular room, divide the colors into percentages:
60% of a dominant color
30% of a secondary color
10% of an accent color
When you think about it, this color breakdown is similar to a man's business suit:
60% of the outfit's color is the slacks and jacket
30% of the outfit's color is the shirt
10% of the outfit's color is the tie
Translated to a room setting, it typically means:
60% of the room's color is the walls
30% of the room's color is the upholstery
10% of the room's color is, say, an accent piece or a floral arrangement

Inexpensive Ways to Give Your Space a Face Lift!

Summer is here and you will probably be doing more entertaining in and out of your home.  Here are a few tips on how to give your spaces a little face lift with out breaking the bank!

Add COLOR and PATTERN- Most of us have neutral colored sofas which is a perfect backdrop to have fun with bright and colorful pillows for summer.  This is an inexpensive way to change the look and feel of your space.  Don't be afraid to mix patterns as well. If you are unsure about mixing patterns, a great tip for beginners is to stick with patterns in the same color, like image below.

I love these pillow pattern combos from Etsy.

Add Color with an Accent Wall- Painting an accent wall will easily changed the look of you space and add more interest when you enter the room.  This is an easy and inexpensive way to transform your space by painting one wall instead of the whole room.

New Curtains!- An easy way to brighten and lighten up your space for summer is to change out those dark and heavy drapes!  You don't need to get rid of them, they are great for the winter months, creating a warm and cozy feel, but pack them away for the summer and pick up some light, sheer curtains or light weight neutral colored curtains in white or a cream etc.

Flowers- Adding fresh flowers to your space is an easy way to freshen up the room.  Not only are fresh flowers gorgeous to look at, but they also release a fresh fragrance into the room.  Fresh flowers weekly may get pricey for some of us, for those on a budget, stick to picking up fresh flowers when you know you will be having guests over, use them as the table center piece or as a coffee table arrangement.

Rearrange Furniture- Last but definitely not least, the best way and most inexpensive way to give your space a face lift... rearrange your furniture! This will cost you $0.00 and can totally transform your space just by re-planning your furniture layout.

Remember that it is now summer, time for relaxing and having fun so don't be afraid to let that show in your interiors! Have fun with your spaces and don't be afraid to try new things!

If you have a mini room face lift before and afters I would love to see them! You can send before and after photos to ashleyfalkenburginteriors@gmail.com
